...suggestions to answer your great question, Doc, so please: anyone who can think of any, chime in! ;)

But at this moment, none occur to me, either.

However, I can attest -- thru conducting/reading/listening-to/watching many, many, MANY interviews with family, friends and fans of (mainly Character) Actors, over the decades I've been studyin' wHorleyWood*...

I can attest to the overwhelming examples available, that Actors known for their Villainous Portrayals Onscreen are typically Pussy Cats in Real Life.

And, sadly, the opposite is also fairly common, as you imply, Doc: "Good Guy" Leading Men are frequently Jerks in Real Life.

There are always exceptions, of course, but the vast majority of performers in these two categories tend to fit the bills, above.

The reason, it seems, is primarily Psychological:

Actors who frequently produce effective Black Hat roles for their audiences draw from sides of their personality that they usually suppress or otherwise Control in Real Life --- and thus, expel such poisonous personality traits thru their work.

White Hat (leading men) types "drain" their "goodness well" thru constant tapping of those emotional waters onscreen, so most of what's left inside for Real Life living is vitriol and bitterness.

(Okay, that's broad generalizing, but it fits the extant evidence of witnesses to these people's behavior, both from those who know them well and the aficionados who encounter them out in the Real World...)

My 2 cents, Doc!

>> * PostScript: "wHorleyWood" is a term I coined aeons back, and have been using for dozens of years. I feel compelled to explain it now, due to the bright spotlight of Sexual Misconduct now blazing upon both the Movie Industry and the wider Real World out there. I meant the term as a reference to the fact that, as Power Corrupts, a similar phenomenon happens in Hollywood (from my research, anyway) --- that being, individuals with Artistic aspirations when they walk thru the arched portals of La-La Land in pursuit of their Dreams, often end up producing cookie-cutter Mainstream Crap, as that's what the Money Boys want (NOT "Art"). Thus, "Artists" find themselves "Whoring" their Talents on the Same Ol' Shite, rather than stretching those abilities to their utmost via worthwhile film projects.

I believe I've commented on this before but it's worth repeating. Lee, Jack Elam and Neville Brand were said to be three of the nicest off-screen personalities, bar none. So incongruous with their... more
