Yep, LVC's "Nick Fitch" role in...

...the "Burned at the Steak" episode of MY MOTHER, THE CAR stands out among Lee's performances. Possibly even unique in some ways, but his Rapid-Fire, Nearly-Breathless Delivery of lines, here, crops up in other characters, too. (EL CONDOR's "Jaroo" comes swiftly to mind.)

And another 'Yes', bobO -- Van Cleef rapidly used up his wind-fall FF$M paycheck, and once again had to scramble for income upon his return to LA, afterward.

I've found ample evidence that LVC tended to be a "spend-thrift" in general, burning thru what money he took in.

On top of that, he sometimes chose poorly when seeking Financial Advisers/Accountants.

However, on the plus side, both friends and acquaintances benefited from his "spend-thrift" ways -- many folx have spoken both publicly and privately (some, told me directly) about Lee's generosity.

There's often a Silver Lining in life, if one looks carefully, eh? ;)

Best,
DCG.
