MirageYeah it wasn'tWed Mar 28, 2012 09:422.214.171.124I wouldn't believe it if he hadn't said it in the initial call to police, but it's recorded. If he had claimed it later I would not have believed. This guy probably learned everything he knew about crime prevention from the Neighborhood Watch manual and television. The main relationship he had with police seems to have been a couple of brushes with the law in his past and 50 or so calls he made to report strangers. I am really divided about Neighborhood Watch. There doesn't seem to be much compliance with the manual. I have been questioned by those folks myself, and found it intimidating and offensive. Honestly, if I had been Trayvon and I was suspended from school, visiting my dad, and some guy stopped me and demanded an explanation for my presence, I might have punched him, too. Trayvon was a 17 year old guy, and I remember how fast brawls start at that age. Fights would break out in hallways at my high school, and I lived somewhere very stodgy. I also remember being asked constantly if I planned to buy something when I went into stores, and I wasn't African American, nor was I a boy. Apparently just being a teen made me suspicious. Obviously he must have gotten that a heck of a lot more.
This is a true story. There was a deaf mute guy here who was stopped by a traffic cop, and he reached for his slate. The officer thought he was reaching for a gun, and shot him to death. I don't know what happened to the officer but mistakes like that do happen, and it's awful. You're Canadian so you will probably tell me we should ban guns, but it would never happen here because of constitutional disagreements, and if it did, there are so many guns here it would be impossible to remove them.
- The gun that wasn't there Frashavan, Wed Mar 28 07:04It's funny how often that features in this kind of shooting. "Oh, I thought he had a gun!" When cops try that one, my reaction is that they should immediately and permanently be reassigned to desk... more
