For some reason this struck me as........

irritating.
I am a lifelong baseball fan and having Hamilton slam 4 homes in one game is a treat! I am not a Rangers fan, but this is historic nonetheless. but when asked about it after the game Hamilton said something like--I just thank the Lord above--I just thank Him. Boy, what a humble guy! Right? I mean he did not really do it at least not without the help of the the Lord. What is unspoken in that humble muttering is that the Lord loves him more than the other players on the field that night--so much more that He lets Hamilton hit 4 homers, a truly historic feat. so I hear Hamilton really saying--Na, na, na, the Lord loves me more than youoooo! Ha, ha ha....... All right--all right, not that snidely, I admit. But you get the idea. Why don't people think about what they say????

I love this saying as well--There, but for the grace of God, go I. I guess they want to be humble when they say that. But what they are saying is that I have the grace of God and you don't. So, you must have done something to lose that grace or you never had it--I am better than you, sucker. ?????? Why do people say crap like this?????
