They were so embarased about it, they never made a claim against the US government, but they were not jailed for as long either. This is why almost nobody knows about it. German-Americans pending citizenship were never jailed at all. Technically the Japanese-Americans in general were pending citizenship permanently, because they were barred by race laws from getting citizenship, as were Chinese-Americans.
