Ferdowsi, Khayyam and Hafez are some of the greats of Persian literature, and originally, Iranian Shiism, is based on Sufism, something the Sunni oppose. Are you sure you aren't mixing up Sunni with Shia? But then is the current Iranian regime really Shiite? Perhaps it is just a Khameni dictatorship?
