Been to Delphi twice. The Pythia (priestess) made responses in a drugged trance to questions put to her by Greek government officials. Originally a priestess of Gea (Mother Nature), the mother of the Titans (the Olympians being the children of the Titans, so the grandchildren of the Olympians), this oracle was taken over by Apollo (great-grandchild of Gea) by his defeat of a dragon there. This was also the "center of the world" for the Greek cosmology, the location of the oldest written Greek music, and the greatest religious treasury of the Greek world. The Temple also had an eternal flame. Nearby Mt Parnassus, is the home of the Muses, and Pegasus. Mt Parnassus is the Greek Mt Ararat ... where in the Greek version of the Flood, the sole surviving man and woman came to rest. The Delphians executed the fabulist, Aesop, because he had insulted them. I have drunk from the sacred spring at Delphi (Castalian Spring).
- Well, I must admit clarym29, Thu May 31 13:37I had not thought of it quite that way. I guess I am not conversant enough in Buddhist thought and know little to nothing of Delphic thought. I guess it is time for a little research.
