I don't allow any auto-withdrawls from my accounts (with the exception of bank charges). Simply would be unmanageable for me, for money to go out and money to go in on their own rhythm ;-(
Yes, that is a nice old essay (the bottom one). Indians have a different perspective. For them, they went from one elite language they didn't understand under the Mughals (Persian) to another elite language they didn't understand under the English (English). It was a major debate in the early 19th century, in the British East India Company which direction to encourage. When the British first got to India the language of international trade was a Portuguese creole (like Brazilian only different). So a British company scholar would have to know four or five languages ... English, Creole, Persian, Sanskrit and the local language.
Socrates said that books were the death of education, but that is both a democratization and a shallowness. For Indians who could afford it, you studied one on one under a guru ... in imitation of what went on in Brahmin families. I feel the essay is ... a bit pro-Brahmin ... the other castes might not feel quite the same way ;-)
