There is a greater disruption from the idea of uniformity, than you mentioned. If there is multiplicity then we humans don't have to come to agreement, by conversation or the sword, as to what is the one true way. If there is uniformity, then we do. I am skeptical of a pluralistic empire like Alexander or Augustus ... but I am completely against the monistic empire of Constantine or Umar.
