I know from your previous posts, and this one, that you can talk Progressive when you want to. One time however, you indicated that per the UN, one had to accept any immigrants that showed up ... though it wasn't clear if you accepted that policy. Of course what Europe does with the Schengen agreement is one thing, and accepting boat people from N Africa is another. Personally I don't approve of free immigration between different countries and cultures, so I don't think we actually disagree. My view is simple pragmatism rather than concern about religion. Though as we both know, for many people, especially Muslims, there isn't much distance between religion and politics. And as I have admitted, in my case while there is tolerance of religion, I don't have tolerance of politics, even when the other people are Americans.
I am afraid cruel catastrophes will result anyway, because that is what history is all about. Though perhaps even a beneficent "beau geste" is still of value. You however won't admit that much of the immigration is the result of employers seeking low wage workers.
