In last week’s Dallas Morning News it was stated that the City of Dallas would be reimbursing Ross Perot Jr. $33 million for a parking garage at the American Airlines Center/Victory Park. The News wrote, “City Hall decided to use tax money generated in Victory Park to refund Perot’s investment in a 1,200-space garage at Victory Avenue and Olive Street. But the company that operates the American Airlines Center – owned in part by Cuban – balked at the plan, saying Perot’s Hillwood Investments isn’t putting up enough money to fund the kind of garage AAC patrons need.” “The plan has drawn criticism as a boost for a very wealthy developer whose play in Victory Park has been anything but a success.” Let’s admit it. Ross Perot Jr’s Victory Park retail and condominium development is a COMPLETE FAILURE. Perot sold Dallas on Victory Park being another Times Square. They went the “elite market” route and priced themselves out of business! So Perot Jr., before foreclosure, got out of the Victory Park retail and condo business, and sold his interest to a German company. I’d go with Mark Cuban on his questioning Perot Jr. on his competency in building an appropriate parking garage. Cuban stated very publically a couple of years ago that the worse business decision he ever made was doing business with Ross Perot Jr. This is the same Perot who complained that Mr. Cuban wasn’t running the Mavericks right, then two years later Mark Cuban brought Dallas a national basketball championship! We are now engaged in a major Dallas County government corruption case involving John Wiley Price, and potentially Ross Perot Jr. As Jim Schutze just wrote in this week’s Observer, one of the Federal Government’s major charges against J.W. Price will likely be collusion to sabotage the major South Dallas Inland Port project which promised about 30,000 new jobs in Prices economically depressed District. Ross Perot Jr. is on record stating that the Inland Port was a “direct threat” to the Perot’s Alliance Airport center in Ft. Worth. Perot Jr. saw the Inland Port as such a major threat that Hillwood would seek about $100 million in public money from Tarrant County for internal improvements to Alliance Airport, and several billion for improvement to three highways, 35, 820, and 183. One month after ground was broken on the Inland Port Ross Perot Jr. began to make campaign contributions to John Wiley Price. On that same day Price began to slow down the Inland Port project by objecting to giving the project a foreign, or free trade zone status. Bill Blaydes, a former Dallas City Council member involved in the development of the Inland Port, stated that he and Price almost came to blows during their meeting about the project. During the yelling match, typical of Price, he called Blaydes a fat politician who wasn’t going to tell him (Price) how to run things in his district. A Hillwood executive was quoted by the Dallas Morning News that Price’s attempt to block the Inland Port’s free trade zone status, a status key to its success, was a move in favor of Hillwood/Perot Jr. Former Dallas County Judge Jim Foster had accused Price and State Senator Royce West of using their official powers to slow down development of the Inland Port in order to pressure developer Richard Allen to hire southern Dallas political consultants at a fee of $½ million per year, and a 15% equity in the project. Foster was quoted in a sworn deposition that he has spoken with the FBI “on many occasions” concerning an ongoing FBI investigation of Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and the southern Dallas “Inland Port” project. Even former Mayor Tom Leppert got in on the shakedown and helped Price slow down the project by pushing for an 18-month land-use and zoning study for the project. Richard Allen said that starting a study that late in the project would create uncertainty and drive off potential customers. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson stated that Price was shaking the Allen Group down, and "John was making sure he put a cork in there to stop everything until they did what he wanted them to do." So in the BIG PICTURE, who was being served by John Wiley Price, Royse West, Tom Leppert, Willis Johnson, Kathy Nealy etc stopping the Inland Port? Ross Perot Jr./Hillwood was being served. Fascism is the political philosophy where the corporate world, where private interests run the government to maximize their profits, and We the People suffer. The Inland Port is a perfect example of Dallas Fascism. Tom Leppert has been punished by his resounding defeat at the polls, and good riddance to him! Let’s pray and push for the indictments of J.W. Price, Ross Perot Jr. et al to restore our city and county to Democracy!
