NOWHERE MAN LYRICS - THE BEATLES

He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere Man,the world is at your command!

(lead guitar)

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?

Nowhere Man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lends you a hand!

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man please listen,
you don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command!

He's a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody!

People read too much into it lyrics... | Reviewer: Larry | 3/25/12

...as if they are a diary of prose. John had been trying to come up with a viable song for a long time and near the end of the day this finally came out as a stream of consciousness (just as most lyrics do). It describes well the state of mind when nothing worthwhile is coming to mind.

misguided fans? | Reviewer: nila | 3/19/12

i read somewhere that this song, like many songs & movies and books goes back to "We see darkly, through a mirror". The scriptures tell us this because we see things through the mirror of the world until we get new eyes through Christ. And, as many artists look through the worlds eyes, this song states the WE are going to command our fate and future.. Wrong?

He's all of us. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/30/11

To me, this songs represents humanity; society as a whole. This "Nowhere Man" is a man lost in his consumerism, in his own mind and his own thoughts, losing his grasp on what life really is. He's too distracted and immersed in his depression to leave his house and his closed mind and open himself to new discoveries.

A Meaningless Life | Reviewer: Sally Faye Smothers | 12/23/11

The first time I heard this song I thought it was a perfect description of a life without Jesus Christ at its core. No matter what plans we make, if we aren't considering them in the light of eternity, our plans are going nowhere.

The Beatles Interpret Dostoevsky | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/18/11

This song appears to be written based on an interpretation of Dostoevsky's "Notes From Underground." Yes, it is also about dealing with existentialism and how it leads scholars and the "Nowhere Man" to brood and think too hard, often to the point of depression. However, like those suffering from depression, the Nowhere Man cannot simply be told to get up and feel happy. The song provides a good argument because it begs the Nowhere Man to listen; it does not command him. It's a sort of therapeutic plea for the man to come out from underground

I think John wrote this song about himself and his childhood life until The Beatles. He had felt so much hurt and pain in his life and none of it mad any sense. His pain turned to anger and a disregard for life and he turned into the Nowhere Man. This song is an invitation to accept the past for what it was and to move on into the great life that was ahead of him.
I've been calling myself the Nowhere Man for the last year for a similar childhood.

i have heard this song many times but didnt understand the lyrics .. having seen and heard them in full .. i understand this is a very deep and meaningfull song. and the lyrics account for a majority of people alive today. i know it has real meaning as it brought tears to my eyes.

True Convictions | Reviewer: Roberto | 12/4/10

The lyrics in this song are awesome. Sadly, there are too many men and women today without true convictions. Without convictions, you have no commitments, values or motivations. Convictions determine our behavior, as well as motivate us to act in undoubtful ways.

Nowhere Man | Reviewer: PTMR | 12/1/10

I disagree with the reviewer who says Nowhere man is not really about anything. The point is, there's a bit of the eponymous song character in each of us, "isn't he a bit like you and me" is difficult to refute. Moreover, Lennon's song is a terrific accompaniment to Kafka's The Metamorphosis and Beckett's Waiting for Godot, as well as many other works of literature in which characters sit around dreaming big plans but ultimately doing nothing to better their lives. The string runs all the way from Miniver Cheevey through Napoleon Dynamite's Uncle Rico. We all know the sort of character who blames some person or aspect of their past for their present situation and thinks things could be much better, if..

Dystopia or Utopia? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/30/10

this song is all about how this man doesnt have a care in the world, but why should he? some may disagree, but i beleive he is living in a Utopia not a dystopia because he seems to like the way things are going, even though it is going down.

It's About... | Reviewer: Another Reviewer | 8/9/10

This song isn't, as some may have suggested, about making a change in the world. In fact, it's about making a change in YOURSELF. It's talking about how you need to go and experience real life before there's nothing left for you except your own "Nowhere Land".

Fooling around in Liverpool as soon as i was 50. | Reviewer: Mauricio | 5/4/10

at the age of 50 i was fooling around in liverpool with friends. We drunk a lot of beer and went to cavern to spent a night together. i live in sao paulo and it was great. All the time they had asked me "are u having good time" Ah how i missed those moments. when i was back to london to go back Brazil i could read a big message at Bayswater underground station. DONT BE A NOWHERE MAN. As long as i live I will love this song.

A thought | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/12/09

I just watched imagine that and heard this song. It feels like a calling to make change, in our personal lives and in the world. Nowhere land is the land of status quo of consuming blissfully ignorant of those who are starving everwhere. Nowhere man needs to help.

nowhere existence | Reviewer: izzy | 11/3/09

The words are presumptuous, IMO. I understood what he was really saying was that we do not know what is going to happen, that life is futile, and man/woman can do whatever the hell they want because we do not know if God exists, so we can be good or bad..whatever works. We can exist without having a conscience, because no matter how far we seem to advance, we are still in darkness. We know nothing of why we exist

Jinty | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/29/09

Have always loved this song. Little did I know back in the sixties that it would mean so much to me later in life. I have a son who is Autistic and the
words remind me so much of him He's a real Nowhere Man sitting in his Nowhere Land (own little world) isn't he a bit like you and me. We all have a touch of it in us.

Excelent song | Reviewer: Nowhere Man | 5/16/09

One of my favourites from the Beatles, really love it. It's so simple and interesting as well, for me it doesn't represent the majority of people who's just ignorant and retard, it represents someone whos just different and doesn't care about shit.
My 2 cents.

inspirational song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/14/09

this songs reminds me of my younger days with friends, all of us no work yet, just bidding our time in our troop's house drinking beers and dreaming for the future.we will sing this song and laugh to ourselves as we were really nowhere, but in our minds and hearts we don't want to be nowhere man the Beatles are discussing about in this song. The Beatles had somehow drived us to make our lives better, and this song will remain to be the songs of our youth.great song..thanks for the music..Beatles forever..myra of philippines

The nothing/nobody song | Reviewer: Gordon | 1/9/08

We all know someone who is a Nowhere Man. He is a security guard, or shop worker, or labourer. He doesn't know who the Prime Minister of Canada or Britain is, he thinks Clinton is still President of the US and he takes his opinions from the Sun newspaper. His idea of entertainment is Big Brother, or Britney Spears, as he likes admiring halfwits with limited talent. He believes what TV advertisements tell him.

When Lennon and McCartney wrote this song, apart from the fact that it is a beautifully constructed number with subtle chord changes, harmonies and twangy guitar sounds, they were taking a dig at the people of their home town and the background they came from - the typical scouse who is only interested in who wins the Liverpool/Everton match, which brand of trainers to nick from the local Woolworths and thinks of job status as becoming a supervisor at MacDonalds.

If you think that YOUR life is going nowhere fast, listen carefully to this song and start changing before YOU become the Nowhere Man
