I very much appreciated your post that the "dictates of governmental indoctrination and rigid control of the citizenry" led to the narrow mindset and cruel behaviors experienced by POW Louis Zamperini. Yours was not an excuse or apology but a well-worded explanation.
Many of us joined this forum precisely to hear you and the other Tarawa veterans share your experiences, so please don't leave!
