Cobra - Eads

Hello,
I've read that Bill Eads (1st platoon, C Co. 1MAC TB) landed with his tank (Cobra) and his crew on Red 1 on D-day. His tank was lost on D+1, on the beach. In an interview, Eads says that the tank spent the night to the edge of the airstrip. After, that, they returned to the beach to support the infantry on D+1.
I would like to know why did Cobra not fought with Cecilia and China Gal when they landed?
Mr Bale, in the book « Marine tank battles in the Pacific », you say that you sent a guy to find the other tanks on D Day, but this guy was killed before he could accomplish his mission. But couldn't you communicate with Cecilia's radio with the other tanks which landed on red 1?

Thanks

Part of the answer is very simple. If COBRA spent the 1st night at the edge of the airstrip - it did not land on Red Beach #1. So it follows that it never fought alongside CECILIA or CHINA GAL at Red ... more

I thought that Cobra landed on red 1. So it means that Cobra was in the 2nd platoon. Thank you for your reply. Romain

Look below, I found the technical manual of the M4A2 Sherman, published in 1943. Look at the pages 352-353 : it shows the electical system junction. It is a bad location for tanks suposed to land on... more
