I had a question for the vets.

One of the most striking differences between the battles of Guadalcanal and Tarawa was the large Navy fleet at Tarawa and all of the new equipment that was issued to the Marines (from new LVT's to new M1 Garand's to new battle gear etc...)

What was the most helpful newly issued item: weapon or equipment or training, that helped you men with the Tarawa invasion? This would be as compared to what what equipment and training you had before the Fall of 1943?
