World War II casualty cards

Formerly one of the hardest databases to search was the USMC Casualty Cards (several cabinets full of cardboard). These are now available in digital form at:

https://www.mcu.usmc.mil/historydivision/cc_ww2/SitePages/Home.aspx

These are free to the public, and cannot be used for commercial purposes.

The database is searchable only by name, alphabetically. Minimal information is provided so you have to infer the general location where the incident occurred from the unit name and date, information you can often get from the "Brown Books".

This is an example of one of my uncles:

Last Name
KENDRICK
First Name
VAN
Middle Name
"A" BRITTENER
Service Number
427893
Date of Casualty
20-FEB-45
Unit
HQCO, 3RDBN, 23RDMARS, 4THMARDIV, FMF
Type of Casualty
WIA
Location
TAB KEM-KENN

The TAB refers to the location in the database.
