My first post; I missed the subject line! Additionally, D/2/18 was split up to assist various combat companies at Tarawa. Much of 2nd Platoon went in to Red 2 with 2/2 in the 4th wave. Bill Bennett's Pioneer team supported F/2/2 from the sea wall to the other side of the island. Lt. Vincent from D/2/18 went in with 3/2 on Red 1 and his entire team was killed on the beach, probably in a crossfire from the "pocket". These men were buried in what became known as "Cemetery 20" by Bill Bennett and other members of D/2/18. Most of the remainder of Company D came ashore at the pier under Captain Farkas the evening of the 2nd day. BP
