Mr. Platt
I have been researching Florida KIA/MIA USMC/USN who took part in Operation Galvanic (Betio/Tarawa) from 11/20/1943-11/27/1943. Using "Tarawa Grave Diggers" (Capt. William L. Niven) I found a reference to your late brother listed as BAS-USS Franklin Bell. I am aware that your family erected a memorial stone in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery-Suwanee County, FL honoring his memory. We have a number of Platt's in Volusia County residing in the Daytona/ Holly Hill area. Is it possible for you to confirm his place of birth and if he was a FL resident at the time of enlistment? I have confirmed a total of five FL KIA Marines (with photo) whose remains have been undiscovered thus far. I honor your brothers service & sacrifice and all those living & dead who participated in that brutal action so long ago. Any clarification you may choose to provide will be sincerely appreciated. I have provided my e-mail address should you wish to respond
