I believe both these losses were reported in the book "Grey Geese Calling" and stated they thought sabotage had occurred with salt water in the fuel, causing these two AC to go down. I searched for the debris field of the second AC out in the lagoon of Tarawa 5 years ago with a number of volunteers with no luck, even thought the water was shallow, the visibility was near 3 feet, and we used a line abreast pattern one direction on a compass course back towards the end of the old runway...about 3 miles out...the recovered remains of this second AC were sadly primarily body parts. We still have no exact ID of the loss site.
