Tom and Brent thank you very much for finding this. Yes he was born in Hopkins MN? so it makes sense that he would be recruited in Minneapolis prior to going to San Diego. He did also speak fondly of New Zealand. Seems like he got to be in HQ and help the brass with communications, that my explain why he did not get a scratch in any of the battles. He did Tarawa, Saipan, Guadalcanal, Tinian, but not Iwo Jima. Not sure why he did not rotate to IJ.
