Bronze Star on American Defense Ribbon
Tue Apr 17, 2018 13:39

This question is not specific to Tarawa, but my Dad has one bronze star on his American Defense Ribbon. Can anyone tell me what it represents? Dad served in Iceland and was there when Pearl Harbor was bombed; for that he received the European-African-Middle East ribbon. He was at Guadalcanal and Tarawa, for which he received two bronze stars on his Asiatic-Pacific ribbon. And then there is the infamous bronze star on his Presidential Unit Citation for Tarawa (which the Dept. of the Navy today insists he is not entitled to). But my brother and I can't figure out what the bronze star on the American Defense ribbon represents. We have his complete military file from NARA, which does not reveal anything. His Discharge/Separation documents do not list any of the ribbons/medals he earned. Appreciate your help!
