SGT Elden William Grimm, USMC, A Company, 1st Battalion, 18th Marines, was reported “Missing in Action” on 25 November 1943 during the Battle of Tarawa. While a member of the Department of Defense (DoD) in 2011/2012, Chief Rick Stone prepared investigative reports which listed SGT Grimm as a Most Likely Match to six “Unknowns” buried in the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, including Unknown X-150. In April 2013, The Chief Rick Stone and Family Charitable Foundation responded to a request by SGT Grimm's family for a comprehensive "Family Report" regarding SGT Grimm’s case. The Foundation refined the original Tarawa investigations completed by Chief Stone using advanced investigative techniques and technologies not available at DoD which confirmed SGT Grimm as a “Most Likely Match” to Unknown X-150. DPAA finally acted on Chief Stone’s original recommendations and began exhumation of the Tarawa “Unknowns” from the Punchbowl in October 2016. Unknown X-150 was recovered from the Punchbowl and the identification of X-150 was confirmed as SGT Grimm. Welcome home Marine! We share the joy of your family in your return to Wisconsin! God Bless you and thanks to ALL who never forgot you and your service to our country!
