Hi George,
I lived on Betio for 7 years from 1969. The island is made entirely of coral. So the clean sand on the beaches was very white. Further inland it got greyish as it became contaminated with other matter, but still fairly white.

            The sand Bob George sent me was fairly coarse and white.
