danfling's Cancelled Soap Opera Messageboard (includes The Edge of Night)
Sat Jun 24, 2017 12:15pm

Henry Slesar wrote a Bible for a spy-based soap opera. It was not bought, but, later, he was asked to write Somerset. (He was already writing The Edge of Night.)

There was a proposed spin-off serial from The Doctors.

There was also a spin-off by Roy Winsor proposed to CBS. However, the show instead purchased Where the Heart Is (by two former writers of The Edge of Night). The spin-off would have featured the Stevens family, and the proposed name was "The Widening Circle."

There was a possibility that Bracken's World (the primetime drama) be moved to NBC's daytime schedule after that show was cancelled.

There was also a proposed spin-off of Peyton Place called The Girl from Peyton Place. (Peyton Place was a primetime serial aired by ABC.) The star would have been Barbara Parkins.

I believe that Claire Labine proposed a new serial. It may have been a spin-off of the serial General Hospital, but I am not sure. Following the decision to not purchase it, she became the co-headwriter of One Life to Live.

I have read that Fred J. Scolley (a soap opera actor) developed a soap opera that was never produced.

Writers John William Corrington and Joyce Hooper Corrington proposed a period soap opera. It was rejected, but NBC and Procter and Gamble later produced Texas.
