Hi Rebecca, The adult patients and parents of children in the clinical trial report to me that they are very happy with HPN-100 and cannot imagine going back to Buphenyl. The point of encouraging the development of this drug was that it eliminates the administration problems of Buphenyl and therefore should improve compliance, but as important, stability. It is a tasteless, odorless liquid. The average dosage would be around 2 teaspoons a day. The side effect profile has been reasonable -- some complaints of stomachache (just like with Buphenyl) that resolved spontaneously. The results of the first adult trial which were presented to the FDA showed that it as least equally as effective as Buphenyl in removing ammonia. If you have any questions or would like to talk to one of the parents with children in the trial, please feel free to email me at Cindy@nucdf.org. Best regards, Cindy Le Mons, Executive Director (and OTC-affected Family), NUCDF
