I like this. The BFR design is like a space shuttle mounted on top of the fuel tank & booster instead of piggyback, and it can land vertically. The fuel tank and rocket engines are integrated and can also land vertically. The diameter is larger, which comes from having manufacturing of various components co-located (NASA used to transport the boosters by rail from far away which limited the dimensions). Then it is scaled up a bit beyond the Saturn V to ensure that it can achieve various missions:

- point-to-point travel on Earth in < 1 hr
- Lunar landing & return
- Mars landing & return
- landing on any solar system body & return (maybe, no examples given)
- in-space refueling
- docking with ISS
- orbital debris cleanup
- launch of many satellites at the same time

Basically, the BFR is its namesake. I hope John Carmack doesn't sue. At least Elon Musk didn't name it the BFR9000 and give it a slogan like "Multi-planetary peace through superior rocket technology." That would have been too obvious. LOL.

      • My thoughts on their new rocket:Ken C, Sat Oct 7 8:39am
I like how they keep making rocket flight less expensive. I think it's a good idea to have 1 rocket that can be used for multiple things. I like how they can get fuel from the atmosphere of Mars.... more

I thought, "They're doing it wrong." Even after they did it two or three times, "I still think they're doing it wrong." However, now that I know they were designing it so that it could land on the... more

Thanks, Ken. The video was interesting to me, but I couldn't believe they didn't mention what excites me MOST about the Future - another Total Eclipse over the USA in 2024. That one will pass... more
