Remember in Chemistry you learned that the noble gases helium, neon, argon, krypton, & xenon formed no compounds. That generalization is utterly false. They form quite a few ordinary stable compounds just like other elements.

The number of compounds increases with atomic number, so compounds of xenon were discovered first, followed by compounds of krypton, argon, neon, and even helium. Xenon compounds are the most stable, followed by krypton, argon, neon, and helium (least stable).
