This was one of those films that once you saw it you told all your friends they had to see it. When I went to see For a Few Dollars More about 6-9 months later the theater was half-filled on a Wednesday night which was pretty good and by the time The Good, the Bad and the Ugly came out it was standing room only with the waiting line a block long. By now the Leone films were looked upon as the James Bond of westerns. They would show all the $ films at Drive-Ins as triple bills for weeks and it wouldn't be over until 2 in the morning.
