I flew to New York and spent most of June 3-9 attending screenings at the Film Forum. It was great to see these movies on the big screen with (mostly) packed and appreciative houses. There were some... more
Hey Pasta Just curious - I made it over to the Film Forum twice, and on both occasions I'd say the crowd was about 100 people, all men and 3 women or so at each. Were the crowds at all your... more
I'd concur with Eric. Most screenings I was at were well-attended or close to sold out, with a real mix of people in the audience. Young couples, older couples, some solitary women and men. At PRICE... more
I went to several screenings and there were a lot of women in the audience - some came alone, some on dates. Very surprising. Also fathers bringing their sons to see the films. Most of the screenings ... more
I saw PRICE OF POWER today and it was indeed a beautiful print. Also an excellent film - much more plot-driven than your usual spaghetti western. I would argue with Cox's assessment that this was... more
Cox did say that he spoke with Gemma, who told him that DAY OF ANGER was his "great film". I would certainly disagree... The Ringo movies and several other Gemma titles are great films too.... more
I always find it interesting how people disagree on films in this genre. For instance, I think FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE is Leone's weakest western in that it drags so badly in the middle. Other fans... more
i think and i am pretty sure, the best and greatest spagetti western, ever made, is "ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST", no doubt about this ! i seen this movie, over 30 times, great actors, great... more
I saw COMPANEROS and THE BIG GUNDOWN tonight at the Film Forum and would pretty much agree with Pasta Shel's reviews. BIG GUNDOWN was a gorgeous looking film, and so many scenes or bits of scenes... more
I hope you get to see the restored 35mm OUATITW, Eric. I would love to know if this version has the correct music at the end. Did you get to see CHINA 9, LIBERTY 37?
No, and CHINA 9 was one film I really wanted to catch. Unfortunately I had guests in. Seeing PRICE OF POWER today, and wish I had 3 hours to spare for OUTITW too! Too many deadlines!
It was great to see a 35mm print of YANKEE at the Film Forum tonight. The print was in good shape and played to a house that was three quarters full - not bad for one of the more obscure westerns.
Great reviews! Thanks for taking the time. I know that I am among many who are envious of your opportunity to see all of these on the big screen....Well done!
...and I'm sure we're all jealous as can be, but happy for you. I saw many of these on the big screen, but usually on a drive-in screen...not like seeing them with an audience. Honks are no... more
Thanks Pasta Shell, I'm sure you had a great time by your enthusiastic reviews. So many of these films look much better on the big screen the way they were meant to be seen. Something like this... more
