RIP Gastone Moschin

Italian actor of theater, stage and TV Gastone Moschin died today in Santa Maria di Terni Hopsital in Terni, Italy. He was 88. Born as Gastine Domenico Moschin in Terni, Umbria, Italy on June 8, 1929, his cinema career alternated between character roles and, more rarely, leading roles, such as in “Seven Times Seven” and “Caliber 9”. His most famous role is that of Rambaldo Melandri in the Amici miei film series (1975–1985). He won two Nastro d'Argento Awards for Best Supporting Actor, in 1967 for Pietro Germi's “The Birds, the Bees and the Italians” and in 1986 for Nanni Loy's “Amici miei – Atto III”. Moschin was also well known for the role of Don Fanucci in Francis Ford Coppola's “The Godfather Part II”. Gaston appeared in two Euro-westerns: “Face to Face” 1967 as a gunman and “Drop Them or I’ll Shoot” (1968) as Deputy Sheriff Gideon.

      What a pity. But he lived along and productive life. Of course everyone here in the states knows him mainly in The Godfather Part II but I loved him in Calibre 9. Wow what a brilliant performance as... more
