SB3 way forward for OD

The recession, sorry long very temporary credit crisis, is potentially the best thing to happen to clyde sailing for the last decade.

No more will people turn up from dinghy land with Bavaria budgets and an idea of comfort actually having anything to do with racing

Th SB3 and Flying Fifteens / pipers are all enough OD for us with a limited budget ( a snot if you MUST have a lid and a trauma room) . The 1990s saw some of the best action in OD on the clyde and it is a sad state for most clubs with the demonic down-tour to Bavarias and Bendytubs with IRC tweaks.

I wish Dane and the others (paddy still got an interest at HSC?) good luck with getting more owners/syndicates into the SB3.

You never know I may fly-sail one in future ;-)

Everyone has their own thoughts as to which of the current one design Clyde fleets they would prefer to be involved in and why. Cost, boat, venue, numbers, average ability, social are some of the... more

Thats my chat! Need to find a decent boat in the UK or Europe, but will be there, all set to get spanked. If anyone comes across one let me know. Our retro australian bus is a bit fat and soggy.
    • Re: Which Clyde OD?chas, Tue Mar 6 18:06
It is quite impossible to separate all those factors from the boat design and venue. However one of the key factors is clearly the provision of bacon rolls at the appointed site after racing. FFs at... more

TP52's on the med..... But I will settle for SB3's at JWD..... At least the banter is decent!

Match or Team racing TP52's on the med. Though the venue would have to be near the airport, so I can park my G6.

In an ideal world... There would be a boat, similar to a 1720, but smaller, more fun, and still raced by other people... There would be a fantastic venue with tidal waters and varied wind and sea... more

This just sounds bliss, other than the 1720 bit, the Venue described takes me to Howth where we raced the Etchells, the Irish certainly know how to set up a facility. Would be nice to have such a... more

Errr... Has the obviously sarcastic description of the sb3 setup at JWD been missed... Maybe we don't have to imagine...

I've heard this so called small whippet-like mini 1720 boat attracts good looking young ladies with its favourable weight limit... Which some say is preferable to sailing with some fat lads munching... more

Sounds almost like a golf :) Its close to the real thing but the obvious lake of liddage renders it useless for the task of uniting the clyde massive into one fleet
