Looking through the SI's for the IRC Champs on 16,17th June once again dissappoints.

"S9 The Start

The preparatory signal, Flag P is hoisted with the warning signal for the first class in any starting sequence and will remain displayed throughout the starting sequence. It will apply to any class whose warning signal is displayed."

This is an attempt at 5,1,go and deprives the fleet of a sensible time checking regime. In reality, it is 5, go because there is no Flag P to act as the authoritative indication of time (4 and 1 as we are used to) and as the SI's state "In alteration of RRS26, ..... the absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded" the 1 minute gun can be missing. It appears unlikely that the committee shall be disposed to an AP.

Then the si's state that

"S9.3
After a general recall, preparatory signals I,Z,Z with I or black flag may be used for the re-start and will be displayed at the warning signal with the class flag."

Sorry squire, already stating that "Flag P is hoisted with the warning signal for the first class in any starting sequence and will remain displayed throughout the starting sequence. It will apply to any class whose warning signal is displayed" contradicts that and good luck to the committee in a protest room, they would have no chance of defending the flag rules when any combination of P with I,Z or B was used. The race would most likely be abandoned or voided as the mistake by the race committee was not fair for all participating yachts.

This is a "Scottish Championship", is it really beyond the wit of man to provide a standard championship starting sequence rather than disadvantaging and denying adequate starting sequence information to the participants?

I agree with Pete, if there is a problem with the SI's then shouldn't it be pointed out? I would have thought trying to make the job of the protest committee a bit easier by cutting out... more

Pete's post does not to me read as a slag. It is a reasoned criticism which is not personal and as such is entirely valid, especially, coming as it does, from a respected, experienced and popular... more

Why slag off event management in public like this , or is it your last course of action after contacting organisers ( who I assume are volunteer human beans running an event for follow sailors , not... more

He's posting this before the event and I'm sure will also be contacting the committee. If more poeple also do this, then there is a greater chance that there will be change to the SI's. He's taken... more

I think Peter has probably got bored of pointing this out as he alludes to in his opening line "once again disappoints". The Scottish IRCs have disappointed in their race management for a few years... more

I'm sure the intentions with the post were good. After all I'd put good money on some boats not reading the sailing instructions and then thinking wtf when they started racing. Whatever angle you... more

Even if the technical content of the post was accurate and it may well be the side comments and inference was not necessary by the author "Pete". A forum is not the place to do it. I am sure an... more
