Zeo Grey
Surprise Visit
Tue Sep 29, 2009 7:38pm

NRP: This is actually just the first little section of a much longer post but its written in such a fashion as to stand by itself and I've got to show I've been writing for reals and not making empty promises on the bar.

Suffice to say: Much more to come.

RP: Liska looked up from a magazine several years out of date at the sound of her door opening. There, framed in the hall's glaringly bright light, was the last person she expected to see.

“What do you want?”

Zeo strode into the room unfazed by the venom in the young reploid's tone. “Came to see you were doing all right.”

“Oh just peachy. It's been a life goal of mine to experience life without legs. Now I get to check that off my to-do list.”

The berserker settled himself in the chair next to Liska's bed, stretching his long legs out and crossing one ankle over the other. “Bein' a little melodramatic aren't you? You'll have a new set screwed into place before long I imagine.”

“In the meantime I get to wonder why, since they don't exist anymore, I still get to feel the pain of both legs being lopped off.” Liska snarled.

“It's called phantom limb pain.”

“That shit only happens to humans.”

“Obviously not since you're experiencing it.” Liska rolled her eyes then paled slightly as Zeo's expression darkened.

“All done being an idiot?” She nodded uncertainly. “Good. I'll explain. Y'see when a reploid loses that much body the main CPU tends to figure y'oughta be dead. If you're not it gets confused and sends pain signals as though you needed a reminder that you need repairs to the legs it believes you must still have since you're not deactivated.”

“That....makes sense in a completely retarded sort of way.”

Zeo didn't bother to reply and long seconds of silence began to mount. After nearly a minute Liska shifted her torso and glanced at Zeo. “So...uh....why're you here anyways? Come to give me more bad advice?”

“My advice was fine.” Zeo replied. “I watched the fight. He surrendered just like I knew he would. Not my fault you were dumb enough to end up hanging over a spike pit.”

Liska opened her mouth to reply then closed it again and took a deep breath, using the few seconds to organize her thoughts before actually speaking. “Right...that...doesn't explain why you're here though.”

Zeo shrugged but Liska caught what might have been concern had it appeared on some other reploid's face flit briefly across the veteran merc's face. “I...came by to congratulate you.”

“Congratulate me?” Liska echoed in disbelief.

“Yeah. First rookie I've met in years that could get herself that fucked up by Axel of all people.” Zeo grinned. “I reckon you ought'a get some kind of reward for that.”

“Gee golly. Here's hoping it's a trophy in the form of a Sacral Plexus Processor that's magically been acquired for me despite it being so far on back-order there isn't a chance of it getting here in time for me to walk out of this fucking coliseum.”

“It sure is cute when you rookies try to act jaded.” Zeo replied, his grin widening.

“Anybody ever tell you you're an asshole Grey?”

“Just one third of the people I meet on a daily basis.”

“Can't help but wonder what's wrong with the other two thirds.”

“They don't have time to call me an asshole. Too busy dying.”

Liska made a face and shook her head. “I can't imagine what you're doing in the mercenary business. You've got a brilliant career as a stand-up comedian just waiting for you.”

“Don't figure I'll take career advice from a girl that fell into a meat grinder despite having the biggest white knight on the planet that's not X or Zero on hand to save her ass. Just doesn't sound like good business sense.”

“Keep cracking jokes Zeo. I'm gonna get my legs back one of these days and I know where you sleep.”

Zeo laughed. Liska was so surprised she almost didn't stop her jaw from literally dropping. “Thatta girl. Keep dreaming big.” He rumbled as he rose to his feet.

“Been real kiddo but I got better things to do then lounge around with a paraplegic that hasn't even got an ass to sit on.”

With that the berserker moved to the door and was gone before Liska could muster up a reply through her shock.

What she found even stranger than the visit was the realization that she actually did feel a little better.

“I'm still pissed at you Zeo Grey.” She muttered half-heartedly as she picked up her magazine.
