My Advice

1) First off, make sure you know what kind of game you're getting into. Go read some posts on the Stomping Ground, paying particular attention to coherency of presentation, overall length, and character focus. If you're sure this is the game for you, continue.

2) Our character creation page is down at the moment, but one of the admins might post up a copy of it for you. In the meantime, I can give you a few pointers and things you may not (probably won't) know. I think the Rules page is down too, so I'll hit some bullet points real quick.

2a. Your character can't be an explicit ripoff or have any personal connection to any canonical character. Fortunately for you, derivative design seems to be something of a world-accepted religion rather than an engineering copout in the Megaman world. As the exploits of Dr. Wily are probably a well-covered historical record, your character could easily have been inspired by records of Skullman. If that's the case, it would be like a real-world soldier named after one of Napoleon's generals. A history buff would probably call your character out on it; use that to lampshade the whole issue and make it go over more smoothly.

2b. Just go ahead and start thinking of a good history now. Amnesia is against the rules. Your character has to have a past, and they have to be aware of it.

2c. Character design is done in a fashion similar to a tabletop RPG. I can't name everything off the top of my head, but you should consider your character's strengths and weaknesses in a more in-depth fashion so you have somewhere to go once you can actually use the form. We don't use numerical stats, but you'll be expected to use a system of points to balance your character's strengths and flaws. Consider their personality, their skills and weaknesses, their appearance, everything. Their equipment too, which you already have a foot in the door on.

3) Read as much as you can on the actual RP forum. It'll give you an idea of what to expect, and what we expect. Third person past tense is our official format, and we generally expect at least a paragraph in a post. More importantly, you'll learn the personalities of your fellow players. You're free to write your own character and your own character alone, but the great strength of the place is that we all take a hand in writing any character we can. It can be messy, and there's patience in spades for people who are really trying, but you'll earn the board's ire very quickly if you just disregard the often years-developed characterization on a whim.

3a. Above all else, learn. We have some truly excellent writers here that could probably get published if they had the inclination. (I'm not one of them, sadly.) Keep an eye out for posts from Kail, Zeo, and Demios. Theirs is really top-tier material, each with different specializations.

4) This board is slow. We know. It's really, really slow. Fortunately, Summer is nigh over and there should be an activity burst sometime in the near future.

5) Wear a thick skin. This is an adult board, and we like to talk a lot of shit. Most of it is in jest, so don't go getting your feathers all ruffled if someone takes a potshot at you. And if someone called LJB starts taking shots, just take it. It's like Bubba; the less you resist, the less painful it'll be in the end. (Though no less scarring.) Also, adult topics are the norm in the game. You'll see murders, rapes, genocide, suicide, extortion, blackmail, slavery and pedophilia. It's a grim take on the Capcom material, but it's probably the most likely.

Oh, one more thing. We're not 100% bound to the Megaman canon. We bend things as we need/see fit/feel like. First and foremost is the existence of the supernatural. Mages exist, as do all the little critters that tend to accompany them in fictional worlds. Just a heads up.

I can't really think of anything else to say. I hope this helps.
