THE HARP
By Kelley

“It’s this way, Riley!” whispered Matthew.
“And you’re taking me to the harp right?” asked his sister Riley in a confused manner.
“No, we’re going to the hardware store,” Matthew replied sarcastically. “Yes, we’re going to the harp stupid! It’s just around this copse of pine trees,” said Matthew.
“We’re here,” Matthew said in a hushed tone. He stared in amazement. Finally, he walked up to the harp. As soon as he touched it, his body began to glow. “Help m-” he couldn’t finish. He had disappeared. The harp strummed a beautiful sound.
“Matthew!!!!!” screamed Riley. She ran to the harp, searching for him. He was nowhere to be seen. Her only option was to repeat his actions. Hesitantly, she closed her eyes and touched the harp. Riley disappeared. When Riley opened her eyes, she was relieved to find Matthew. They appeared to be in a sort of cave. She looked around and saw sparkly jewels. “Where are we?” Riley asked.
Riley was about to grab one of the sparkly pink jewels, when Mathew yelled, “No! They could set off a trap!”
Quickly, Riley pulled her hand back.
Matthew said, “Come here. Look at this.” He pointed to a strange looking waterfall.
They walked towards it and saw a lovely, little village on the other side of the waterfall. Riley said, “Let’s go explore the village. We only have to walk through the waterfall.”
The brother and sister walked carefully through the waterfall. They expected to be soaked, but strangely, they were completely dry. “Whoa!!! How come I’m not wet?” Matthew exclaimed.
“I’m not wet either! This is bizarre.”
On a sign were the words, Loompa Land, Home of the Oompa Loompas. “Oompa Loompas,” Riley asked. “Who’s heard of such a word?”
“I don’t know?” Mathew said dumbly, after all he was only twelve, one year younger than Riley. Suddenly, the doors to the homes opened. Oompa Loompas started to walk towards them. They greeted the siblings with warm smiles and hugs.
“What is going on?” she asked again.
“We Oompa Loompas, this our village.” They said without an explanation.
“Whatever you are, we don’t understand incomplete sentences, so please let us be!” Riley said sternly.
“You rude to Oompa Loompas! You will hear cries of fury!”
“Calm down, my sister means no harm.” Mathew said as he tried to stop them from attacking.
“Oompa Loompas very sensitive. We sorry,” they said as they stepped back to calm down.
“I’m sorry,” Riley said softly, a little disappointed in herself after the way she acted. One of the Oompa Loompas, gently touched her arm, as if to show her all was forgiven.
Suddenly, Riley transformed into an Oompa Loompa.
“What did you do to my sister?” yelled Matthew.
“Oh whoops. Forget to tell you when Oompa Loompa touch you, you turn to Oompa Loompa,” the Oompa Loompa said so quietly they could barely hear him.
“Oh now you tell us,” Riley said in her normal sassy tone.
“Oompa Loompa sick of your attitude! You banished!”
“That’s not fair!” yelled Matthew. “Make my sister normal. NOW!”
“For that, you go to Desert of Despair.”
Quickly, the Oompa Loompas grabbed the siblings. They dragged them to the Desert of Despair. “Dis de Desert of Despair,” an Oompa Loompa announced. Another Oompa Loompa pushed the sibling into an enclosed deserted area that was surrounded by a moat. The gate was locked behind them. Then the Oompa Loompas disappeared. Out of nowhere a sand castle appeared and it was humongous!
“This moat is too large. There’s absolutely no way to get over thi-,” Riley didn’t finish. A draw bridge was lowered, and a purple, glowing person appeared. As the shape got closer it turned into a queen.
“Why are you in the Desert of Despair?” asked the purple queen.
“The Oompa Loompas put us here!” Riley shouted.
“Uh no,” chuckled the queen. “Well, we can’t have this.” The purple queen waved her wand. The siblings saw a blinding purple flash of light. When it disappeared, they were in the forest standing next to the harp. Riley was back to normal. They looked at the harp. They promised to never to come back, but if we kept that promise is another story.
