The Harp
By Ashley

“Cock a doodle doo!” It was a sunny Saturday morning in Portland, Oregon. It’s me, Monroe Seagreaves. As I rose up from my bed, I hit my head on something hard. “Oww!” I hollered. At first I thought that it was the gargantuan hard candy in my dream, but then I realized it wasn’t. Russ, my dog, had put his toy bin on my bed again! I pushed it out of my way, even though it was hard to move. I said, “Hey! It’s Saturday!”
I hopped out of bed and ran downstairs. I ate toast that I toasted in a toaster that toasts toast. I ate my breakfast as fast as I could. When I finished, I got Russ, my backpack, and ran out the door. I was on my way to Cordon’s house. Cordon is my best friend. His house is only a few blocks down.
On the way, I waved to the mail man, the store owner, Mrs. Brown, and the thing outside of car washes. I mimicked its waving motion, and made car sounds. Then I tripped on a rock and flew into the air. I fell flat on my face. I lifted up my head. I was in a complete different surrounding!
OMG! It looked remarkably like the woods! It was a forest! Then, all of a sudden, I saw something strange! Then I yelled as loud as a lion, “Whoa! That horse looks weird!”
Russ barked.
Then I said, “Oh yeah, it’s a moose.”
Russ barked again.
“Okay. Is it a unicorn?” I asked uncertainly.
“Woof,” barked Russ.
I thought my day couldn’t get any weirder, but that is when I heard the music of the harp! I was shocked to see a harp’s strings vibrating and making a beautiful tune by itself! I saw a colorful bird swoop by, and then it pooped cotton candy, and its colors were green, red, white, and purple.
“Mmmm,” I said. Then I came up to the harp and touched its top. It floated up in the air, and hit me straight in the head.
“Oww!’’ I shrieked.
The harp just stayed there as if it was smiling at me. I smiled back and giggled a bit. I sat down on a stump and told the harp the story of the crab and the fish. The story put me to sleep! Not the harp!
When I woke up, my eyes slowly opened. I saw sparkling gold. The harp was right in front of me. I think it wanted me to get up.
The harp said to me in a soft voice, “It is time for the grand tour.”
“Wait, what, huh?” I muttered.
“The tour, you know what that is?” said the harp.
“Yeah of course,” I said confused.
On the tour we passed golden trees, glittering fairies, orange midgets, lollipop people, and purple miserable blobs called tuetramens [toot-in-ramens].
I said to the harp, “Russ and I must be going now.” I didn’t want to make the harp upset, but we really had to get to Cordon’s house.
The harp said, “When we get back together again, please bring me jelly. It is good for my strings.”
“If we ever do get back together,” I said. I think the harp wanted to hang out with me because I’m so cool. As I was walking away, I realized I wanted to say bye to the harp one last time. When I turned around, the harp was gone! I gasped. All that was left was ash. The ash spelled out, “See you next time!”
I was sad about the harp but I kept my head up high and walked home with Russ. Then Cordon called to ask me where I was. “It is a long story. I’ll explain later,” I yawned. I was SUPER, SUPER, SUPER tired, and I just wanted to take a nap.

2 minutes later………….

ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…………..

THE END Thanks folks
