If gorillas and chimps are apes, and if the term "ape" is to have any scientific and monophyletic meaning, then humans are also apes.

In other words, any monophyletic taxon that includes genera Gorilla and Pan, must include the genus Homo.

The anatomical data are confirmed solidly by DNA data.
