I think the government should handle the civil/legal union. That union may affect the couples rights to join each others health plans and may give them legal authority to handle each others affairs when one is in the hospital. I think that should be for both same sex couples and mixed sex couples, and they should both be consenting adults.
Churches and should have whatever type of wedding ceremonies they want, and they should be allowed to refuse to serve any type of couple who they consider "sinners". The wedding ceremony is not just religious, some non-religious people like to have weddings and invite their friends too.
I'm not sure what "Marriage" should mean and which thing it should apply to.
