the legal authority to handle each others affairs when one is in the hospital?

Maybe that's not really a special privilege like the tax breaks, but it would be a reason for people to get the legal document.

What if one stays home to take care of the house and children, and that person wants a guarantee of alimony money if the working spouse leaves?
