SESHave another Blue Moon, on me. lolThu Jun 28, 2012 2:19pm22.214.171.124This conversation started with my saying that the Christian and Jewish belief in their Creation Myth as literal truth was nonsense.
In my opinion MANY Christians and Jews, even today, take the Creation Myth of their Bible to be literally true. Now some of them ARE willing to concede that perhaps "6 days" back then weren't the same as "6 days" today, but still -- many Christians and Jews today insist that god created everything from nothing.
And Christian and Jewish leaders TODAY teach it as literal truth. Along with a lot of OTHER biblical stories, like the Ark.
My contention is that that has ALWAYS been the case. I have NOTHING to back that up with, but I assume that people back then were even LESS knowledgeable about Science than people are today. And that like today, their religious leaders taught the stories as literal truth.
Whether they were SUPPOSED to be thinking that way, or whether there were a few more knowledgeable people among them that knew the stories were not literal, is irrelevant.
My final point was that a lower percentage of Jews and Christians believe the stories are literal NOW than way back in the day. And that's because of Science.
