There is a far higher principal incumbent on the President

"To Protect and Defend the Nation and The Constitution".

Policy is not supported by the Constitution. Policy is the personal-preference, self-interest shit that politicians can get away with before they are found out for what they are and ousted from office.

The Constitution is timeless and means exactly what it says. There is a built-in Amendment process to address changing needs. There is no built-in provision for federal judges to legislate from the bench. For any issue that is not clearly in congruence with the Constitution, there is the court process to examine if it passes any muster.

The more simple and basic the process, the better. Political grandstanding and legislating from the bench obfuscate the process and lead to widespread dissent and distrust within the populace.
