I personally know two transgender individuals...

One female to male and one male to female... Both are children of long time friends...

They were suicidal because of how frustrated and upset they were about their predicament... They tried EVERYTHING... Cross dressing... Psychologists... Psychotropic meds... Therapy... Anything and everything possible to "fix themselves" until finally realizing that it boiled down to "being in the wrong body"...

It is extremely hard to imagine what it's like for them, however, close your eyes and imagine yourself in a woman's body and what it would feel like to you KNOWING you are a man but trapped in the wrong body... How necessary and life-saving would it be for you to be able to get out of the wrong body and into the right one?

It boils down to the inner/outer self... When your outer body doesn't match your inner self, you are a MESS... Nothing is right... A man trapped in a woman's body can't be satisfied simply by living your life as a "Butch Lesbian" seeking out a "Femme Lesbian" because you aren't a Butch Lesbian, you are a MAN...

So, yeah, I totally get it WHY it matters SO MUCH to people who are in that situation...

What I DON'T get is why a brutal murderer who stole the life of a young family man and a father/husband/son/brother from his family should be indulged in it... There's no rehabilitation expected there... He's a killer and in there for life... So, while the state is obligated to provide for his physical needs to sustain that life, the state is NOT obligated to add the slightest PLEASANTRY to it... Were he a different kind of criminal, especially one who'll eventually be released, I'd feel differently about it... But, as far as I'm concerned, let the killer rot in prison for his crimes and DON'T pay for his surgery...
