He is saying that if he accepts science as a whole, even then, he does not understand how science can explain that human thoughts have more meaning than the sound of wind in the trees.

This is still a basic argument from incredulity. He does not understand, therefore...

That is not a logical argument. It does not matter that he adds a conclusion. He does not understand, therefore, it cannot be true. It should be obvious that his inability to understand does not support his conclusion.

His inability to understand certainly would make it more difficult for him to accept. No doubt. But that is another matter entirely.
