I am NOT trying to paint Islam (which has no strictures concerning FGM, by the way) in any light. This has nothing to do with Islam. It has to do with the principles around freedom of religion and the limitations thereof.

You and DFM seem to be unable to read. I have stated this repeatedly.

Removing part or all of the visible portion of the clitoris is horrific. I do not support it at all. There are some who do, and they would defend their position via religious freedom and cultural tradition. The same way other things are defended. It is not enough to say, "Well, obviously FGM is much worse than these other things, so we can just rely on observation." No, we can't. We need a better, more coherent and cohesive position.

I thought this would be a good place to have a discussion about that. But some people can't drop their partisanship, their xenophobia, their islamophobia, or their bigotry long enough to engage constructively. I am spending most of my effort in this thread trying to remind them about what the thread is about.
