Here is an example of a horribly failed prophecy.
Mon Aug 28, 2017 6:11am

(KJV is used below.)

God says that David's kingdom will last forever. It didn't of course. It was entirely destroyed about 400 years after Solomon's death, never to be rebuilt. Even upon returning from the First Exile, the Davidic Dynasty was NOT re-established.

2 Samuel

12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels [groin], and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

Interestingly enough, the original prophecy and its utterly abject failure are reported in the same book of the Hebrew Bible.

In Jeremiah 34 God tells Zedekiah that he will die in peace and be buried with his fathers.

4 Yet hear the word of the Lord, O Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the Lord of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:

5 But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings [funerary pyres] of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours [incense] for thee; and they will lament thee, saying, Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the Lord.

But Jer 52 says that he died a violent death in a foreign land.

9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.

10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.

11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.

See also 2 Kings 25:

7 And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
