... was/is primarily a classical piano artist. He attended the National Conservatory of Athens, where he studied with Krinio Kalomiri, daughter of the Greek composer Manolis Kalomiris, and Myrto Mavrikou. In 1982, at the age of fifteen, he graduated with honours and received a scholarship from Alexandro's Onassis Foundation. He continued to study in some of the most prestigious music academies, such as the Salzburg Academy and the Juilliard School in the US. He later studied with great pianists such as Rudolf Serkin, Tatyana Nikolayeva, and Nikita Magaloff. His greatest influence was Vladimir Ashkenazy a pianist whom Tsabropoulos greatly admires and respects as his mentor. He later composed and dedicated a set of six preludes for piano for Ashkenazy. The Achirana project appears to be his first "foray" into the Jazz genre, and I think it is one of the finest contributions evah to the Mansion of Jazz. "The Spell" almost appears to be a spontaneous improvisation as opposed to a pre-documented composition.

I do not claim to be an expert on Jazz ... but I am earning my "degree". It's a deep and wide universe, so I am probably still in Jr High comparatively. I own 1,335 Jazz CDs, covering just about everyone from John Abercrombie, Muhal Richard Abrams and Cannonball Adderly, to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ahmad Jamal and Ramsey Lewis, to Branford, Delfaeyo, Ellis, Jason and Wynton Marsalis, to Jane Monheit, Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson and Charlie Parker, to Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, Horace Silver, Bobo Stenson, Billy Strayhorn and McCoy Tyner, to Gerald Wilson and John Zorn. (I am also a Classical and Rock "nut", 523 & 264 CDs respectively). I listen to Jazz (and Classical) stations all over the world thru XM Radio, TuneIn Radio and other Internet sources.

JuJu and I have attended many live Jazz concerts from NY to Chi to SF to Nashville, Watertown, Franklin and Murfreesboro TN. We have personally met many of the Jazz greats, including Ahmad Jamal, all the Marsalis Family except Delfaeyo, Ramsey Lewis, McCoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau, Roy Haynes, Chico Freeman, Maynard Ferguson, Michael Brecker, Jeff Coffin, Lou Donaldson, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joshua Redman, Peggy Stern, Christian McBride and Annie Sellick.

Anyway, cutting to the chase, I think I know enough about Jazz to recognize the unique genius of the Tsabropoulos/Andersen/Marshall Trio.

Enjoy.

I know music is a very personal taste, and everyone has their own repertoire of favorites. As a result, I don't try to "bauer" people with a barrage of my personal favorites, but every so seldom, when I come across "donkey/onion"* quality "musical manna from Heaven", I will offer it for consideration. =)

*I should let JuJu clarify this term - it's one of her faves
