Religion is

an expression of belief. It has been used through the ages to try to inspire good behavior and also to excuse bad behavior. I do see it as a human 'invention' or perhaps a better way to say it is that religion is a human perception.

If religious belief is wrong it does not necessarily follow that the existence of God/god is automatically negated. It means that human perception of this god is faulty.

Is there a god? Or gods? I doubt it in the extreme - just as I doubt in the extreme that if there is one that this god will be found in a book. Books are written by humans. Humans have been wrong plenty of times.
