Whatever happened to the "Melting Pot"?

Melt down???

I do agree that in united diversity there is great strength and richness. There is a lot to be said of 'E Pluribus Unum'.

But for reasons I don't get, it seems that as time goes on, this melting pot of ours is becoming more and more polarized.

Is it that in our effort to wipe out bigotry and prejudice, we have gone too far and are now too tolerant? Is it that the bigoted and prejudiced are coming out of the closet were before they tended to hide in the closet? Is it that we are simply more aware of what goes on behind closed doors? What's the deal here?

I don't know what the actual dynamics are that is driving all of this. But it seems to me that our melting pot is now melting down.

I do think think this, though - if other countries/cultures expect us to respect their way of life, its only fair that they reciprocate.
