Those who actually know what they're talking
about because of 'education' know that the
literal interpretation of the Bible means
understanding it in the context of its parts,
whether poetry, history, narrative, law, etc.

In that context it's easy to see that, as in
other writings, a straightforward reading
indicates what is literal and what is figurative.

The snakes are literally figurative in this case,
as are raining cats and dogs in common parlance.
