I think this segment does indeed realize it's unlikely to get this sort of opportunity again, and they're striking while the iron is hot. I also agree that the more visible examples embolden those generally too ashamed of themselves to openly voice these views.

It's an interesting parallel with Trump himself: on his own, even as president, a boorish but ultimately disconnected and in-over-his-head laughingstock. But the much-more-politically-capable right wing politicians he's enabled are doing incalculable harm. Visible, overt neo-Nazis don't really have that much power themselves: they tend to be reviled (at least publicly) almost universally. But what are they enabling?
